Rajasthan Judicial Service Examination Overview
The Rajasthan Judicial Service (RJS) Examination 2024 is organized annually by the Rajasthan High Court to recruit candidates for the Civil Judge cadre. This examination is a critical step for those aspiring to join the judicial services in Rajasthan, providing a structured pathway to a career in the judiciary.
Examination Structure and Syllabus
The RJS Examination is divided into three stages:

Preliminary Examination
The Preliminary Examination is an objective type test designed to evaluate the candidate's knowledge in key legal subjects as well as their language proficiency. The key details of this stage include:
- Weightage: 70% on law subjects (Law Paper I and II) and 30% on Hindi and English proficiency.
- Maximum Marks: 100
- Number of Questions: 100
- Duration: 2 hours
- Marking Scheme: No negative marking for incorrect answers.
- Nature of Exam: Conducted on OMR sheets.
The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination will not be considered for the final merit list but serve as a qualifier for the Mains Examination.

Mains Examination
The Mains Examination is a subjective test aimed at evaluating a deeper understanding of legal principles and the candidate's ability to articulate their knowledge through essay writing and case analysis.
- Total Marks: 300
- Law Papers: Two papers (100 marks each)
- Hindi and English Essays: One paper each (50 marks each)
- Duration: 3 hours for each law paper and 2 hours for each essay paper
Mains Examination Syllabus
Law Paper I (100 Marks)
- Core legal principles from various acts such as:
- Code of Civil Procedure, 1908
- Constitution of India
- Indian Contract Act, 1872
- Order/Judgment Writing, etc.
Law Paper II (100 Marks)
- Focuses on criminal laws including:
- Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973
- Indian Penal Code, 1860
- Juvenile Justice Act, etc.
Language Papers (Hindi & English Essays)
- Essay writing in Hindi and English to assess articulation and language proficiency.
Interview (35 Marks)
The final stage of the RJS Examination is the Interview or Viva-voce, aimed at assessing the candidate’s personality, general awareness, communication skills, and knowledge of Rajasthani culture.
- The candidate's academic record, character, personality, and physique will be evaluated.
- Marks for proficiency in Rajasthani dialects and knowledge of local customs will be added to the total score.
